From there, at the age of 12, she joined the Arts Educational School, Tring, specialising in Ballet and Music. At the age of 16 she joined the Royal Ballet School Teacher Training Course.
Graduating in 1975 as Head Student with the Royal Ballet School Diploma for the teaching of Ballet, the Leonide Massine Choreographic Diploma (Hons) and the Benesh Notation Diploma and then came to Winchester to take over a small school previously run by former Olympic athlete, Maureen Gardner. The School has grown to provide a sound training for aspiring dancers and for those whose wish is simply to enjoy dancing. Children and students who show a special aptitude for dance are fully supported and coached for auditions to vocational schools. Former pupis have gone forward to dance with the Royal Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet and other ballet companies around the world and on the West End stage. Many pupils have also gone on to teach dance and form successful dance companies, often returning to the school to teach the new young dancers of the future. Examinations are available and encouraged for all levels - we study the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing - children usually enjoy the additional incentive which a prospective examination provides, and are entered when they are ready.
Students are also encouraged to take Teaching qualifications and receive special coaching. All pupils are presented in regular School performances and also entered for major dance competitions. there is an annual Summer Dance Course for all levels.
